*Saramago*

I saw a Saramago interview on Jô Soares where he explained the difference between cruelty and violence. Saramargo's one of the guys with whom I pay attention to everything he says. I like the way he explains himself.

He said people always think nature is cute, and he talked about poisons, earthquakes, terrible things that are not cute. This hippie thing that nature is good; it's not always good, but it's not cruel. The natural world is violent, but it's not cruel. That is something only found in the human spirit. Carlos set the words to music. It's my favorite song of ours.

I've never sung it live. It's not an easy song; it's a choro. Some singers liked the song; but no one has dared to record it.

Sometimes I make lyrics like a journalist. I'm telling something that I've seen; I'm not really creating but I'm giving notice to people. Everything that I think deserves attention becomes a song for me.

Violence is a thing always on people's minds, on the minds of middle class Brazilian mothers...like today's weather. We're always dreaming of a world without violence. We'd like to believe in "Imagine". I was a kid and it's still the same. We wonder when people will start respecting peace.
